Simon Zebo on to a real winner at Wings for Life World Run

On 3 May 2015 (at 12pm) runners of all abilities, young and old, will come together in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin to run the Irish race of the Wings for Life World Run. It is a very unique race in that the finish line catches you. Thirty minutes after the athletes start, a catcher car, driven by Irish and Munster rugby player, Simon Zebo will begin to follow all runners. The winner will be deemed the last person to be caught by the car, both in Ireland and globally.

Registration is now open for everyone on www.wingsforlifeworldrun.com.  All of the €20 entry fee will go directly to Spinal Cord Injury research.

BrewFest comes to Cork for Easter

BrewFest Cork will open during Easter Weekend (1-5 April excluding Good Friday). Cork will be ‘on tap’ at the iconic Old Thompson’s Bakery, MacCurtain Street with a suite of 50 locally brewed beers, stouts, ales, ciders and wheat beers, with local artisan food producers and toe-tapping live music to ramp up the experience. BrewFest will be brought to Cork by those behind the hugely successful Oktoberfest Beag Festival.

Mr. Tayto does Ibiza!

The Tayto ‘More than just a crisp’ campaign continues with Mr. Tayto taking things up a notch and making it Balearic! For one week this July, Mr. Tayto will swap his beloved potato fields for the white sands of Ibiza and he wants four other crisp lovin’ clubbers to come join the fun. World Macaron Day comes to Dublin with The Natural Bakery

‘Jour du Macaron’ or Macaron Day is on Friday (20 March) in all five of The Natural Bakery shops, located in Donnybrook, Kilmainham, Ranelagh, Rathmines and Stillorgan in Dublin. Every cent from every €1 macaron sold on this day will be given to the Irish charity Focus Ireland which combats homelessness in Ireland. Macaron Day was founded by world famous pastry chef Pierre Herme in Paris and is celebrated in some of the biggest cities in the world.

Over €1,200 raised for Sightsavers Ireland by Torres Wines and Bijou Restaurant

On Thursday, 12 March, Martin Meade of Bijou Restaurant in Rathgar handed over a cheque for €1,240 to Noel Keogh of the blindness charity Sightsavers, ensuring that 34 sight-restoring operations can be carried out in the developing world. This was made possible via funds raised by the first Torres Wine & Dine in the Dark evening of the new year which took place in Bijou on 5 March. Courses were paired with five of Torres’s most premium wines.

Terenure stalwart ‘Bru’ Byrne is deserved Wolf Blass ‘Local Legend’ for February

The Wolf Blass and Leinster Rugby “Local Legends” campaign, which seeks to find the unsung heroes of the local rugby scene in Leinster, has selected Brian (“Bru”) Byrne of Terenure College RFC as February’s worthy recipient of the honour. Since leaving Terenure College in 1969, BRU has been a player, coach, selector and mentor to junior players in the club. He has won Canterbury and Rhino Rugby merchandise for his club, which will now be entered into the overall final to win a €3,000 cash prize.
