An Taoiseach, Brian Cowen joined Ireland’s fastest-growing convenience group Gala Retail Services, as it announced plans to open 25 new Gala stores, creating approximately 250 jobs in 2009. Gala made the announcement as the group’s 10th year in business draws to a close.

Despite economic conditions, Gala invested heavily in launching a new image and strategic marketing initiatives throughout 2008. Commenting on the announcement, Brian Cowen said: “It is a tremendous credit to the management of the Gala Group and its stores, that in testing times, Gala is positively looking towards the future and investing in expanding its network of stores.”

Brand recognition for Gala is at an all time high following a major €250,000 consumer 10th birthday promotion, which gave away 10 Volkswagen Polos and 10 luxury breaks to the Algarve. Gala’s biggest-ever consumer promotion came after its pledge to raise €250,000 for Ireland’s Jack and Jill Foundation, as part of its CSR programme. Gala’s 12 Days of Christmas Jack and Jill campaign began in stores nationwide on Monday 1 December.
