Tesco launches ‘rainbow roses’ to celebrate equality
12 February 2016
Celebrating equality on the first Valentine’s Day since Ireland historically became the first country in the world to legalise same-sex marriage by a popular vote, Tesco today introduced a limited edition ‘rainbow rose’ for Valentine’s day.
Priced at €2.50, the rose petals are coloured by splitting the stem and dipping each part in different coloured water. The colours are then drawn up the stem into the petals to form a vibrant multi-coloured rose.
With the supermarkets vying to attract Valentine’s Day spend, Tesco is putting its best marketing foot forward and the ‘rainbow rose’ has helped its range of dine-in offers, wines, flowers and chocolates stand out.
Tesco’s traditional red roses start from €2 for a single red rose with a dozen Valentine’s roses available from €4 and a sweetheart, heart-shaped bouquet for €15. Back by popular demand, Tesco says it will also be stocking bouquets of a dozen Tescofinest white luxury avalanche roses for €25 and to add some variety to traditional red roses, the Tescofinest rose & orchid and rose & lily bouquets are each €25.
