Irish school wins Junk Kouture World Designer of the Year 2023

Irish design #TagMe from Moate Community School, Co. Westmeath, Ireland have been crowned Junk Kouture World Designer of the Year in Monaco. Eurospar are the official supporters of the Irish team, which had ten designs competing on the world stage in Salle des Princes in Monaco’s Grimaldi Forum and funded the team’s trip to the Principality.

This live event showcased sixty finalists from around the globe unveiling their ingenious, eco-friendly couture creations in a dazzling and high-energy showcase with the Irish team from Co. Westmeath emerging victorious. Designed by Eva Donlon, Evie Nugent and Méabh O’Shea of Moate Community School, Westmeath, the winning design #TagMe was made from plastic colour samples for various plastic objects – they used more than 2,500 tags, hand sewn together. 

Eurospar recently confirmed that it will be continuing as a sponsor of Junk Kouture 2024, kicking off with the regional finals in the Helix in March and the Dublin City final in May.

Eurospar, with its 52 locally-owned supermarkets, will support Junk Kouture’s sustainability message. A new initiative, Classroom Kouture, will be launched by Eurospar for primary schools nationwide, aligning with their commitment to responsible retailing.
