Lidl Ireland has welcomed Galway City Council’s decision to approve development of a new store at Arch Motors on the Seamus Quirke Road.

The site sits in a prime location in Galway City which will be redeveloped by the retailer to contribute positively to the area. With the development, Lidl will expand its Galway city portfolio to three stores.

Further, Lidl’s development at Arch Motors will see an investment of €6 million into the local area as well as the creation of up to 35 permanent new jobs once the store opens.

Lidl intends to put this project out to tender in August following a final decision from Galway County Council, with a view to commencing construction in September creating the equivalent of 50 full time construction jobs for a year.

The store, which will keep in line with existing surrounding businesses on the site, will also incorporate a range of sustainability features including an ISO 50001 certified Energy Management System, electric vehicle charger spaces and a solar panel system. It will also offer the retailer’s growing customer base a superior shopping experience with a spacious interior layout, high ceilings and wide aisles creating a comfortable shopping experience for customers.

“We welcome the decision from Galway City Council on our proposed site on Seamus Quirke Road and are eager to support the local community with significant investment, job creation and the highest quality at the best prices when we begin trading,” said Paul Downey, regional property executive, Lidl Ireland.
