Blanco Niño, a tortilleria based in Tipperary that has sold more than 15 million corn tortillas to 13 European countries, has taken the next step in its expansion journey by launching a range of permium corn tortilla chips into supermarkets. In order to achieve this, it is employing a crowdfunding model which reached 50% of its target in the first week.

Having already gained investment from Enterprise Ireland as well as DoneDeal and other prominent Irish food investors, the Blanco Niño team is now seeking more food-lovers and investors to join them on this journey.

The popularity of Mexican food has soared in recent years. The market for tortilla chips in western Europe is set to grow more than 32% in the next five years, although Blanco Niño suggests that the segment in Ireland is not growing at the same rate due to the low quality of current offerings. The brand says it sees this as both a challenge and an opportunity. This summer, it will launch three flavours to the market: lightly salted, chilli & lime and ancient grain. These flavours have been created in partnership with small-scale, sustainable Mexican farmers to employ the best-quality ingredients available.

Philip Martin, CEO & Founder of Blanco Niño, says the company is incredibly proud of how far it has come since it was founded. “We’re now in 13 European markets via 24 distribution partners,” Martin says, “and selling to many of Europe’s best Mexican restaurants. None of it would be possible without a really fantastic team, and the phenomenal support and encouragement we’ve received from the Tipperary LEO, Enterprise Ireland, Bord Bia and our backers. We’re now very excited to be taking the next step and launching our tortilla chips into supermarkets across Europe.”

Blanco Niño is gluten free and preservative free.
