SuperValu enjoys massive haul at Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Awards

The much-loved Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Awards took place this past weekend as part of the Dingle Food Festival, with SuperValu products taking home a massive 118 awards, bringing its historic total to a massive 450.

SuperValu received a massive 118 Blás na hÉireann awards at the annual awards ceremony in Dingle last weekend, including 42 awards for its own brand range of product, and 76 awards for brands that emerged as part of SuperValu’s Food Academy programme. The prestigious awards recognise and celebrate the very best in Irish food and drink and SuperValu’s continued success at the awards now includes more than 450 awards in total.

Own-brand SuperValu products won 21 gold award, 11 silver and 10 bronze, whie the 76 Food Academy winners included 25 gold awards, 27 silver and 24 bronze. The latter haul included two Chef’s Larder Awards for Rocker Organic Farm Mixed Salad Leaves, and Dunganny Organic Flour.

Now in its 12th year, the Blas na hÉireann awards is the biggest annual competition of its type in all of Ireland. Thousands of products enter each year, hoping to go home with Gold, Silver or Bronze Awards across 100 food and drink categories.

Martin Kelleher, managing director, SuperValu said Blas na hÉireann is always a highlight of the SuperValu calendar. “We are delighted to have had another outstanding year,” Kelleher said. “SuperValu has always been committed to supporting Irish food suppliers, with 75% of products on our shelves sourced or produced in Ireland.

“We’re very proud that SuperValu and so many of our superb local producers have received the recognition they deserve,” he added.
