Spar Ireland has recently revealed a new strategy that targets €30 million being invested into an additional 30 stores.

It has recorded record retail sales of €1.3 billion in 2024 and they aim to add a further €60 million this year.

Currently, Spar has 420 stores nationwide and they target opening a further 30 over the next three years in line with their new strategy plans.

They will aim to expand on green and brownfield sites as the plans will be supported by retailer growth and recruitment programmes.

The future ahead

John Moane, group chief executive of BWG Group , said: “This comprehensive new strategy puts Spar and its retailers in a very strong position to continue leading the market and performing strongly into the future.

“Over the past 20 years and beyond, Spar has established itself as an integral part of many new and growing communities across the country,” he continued.

As part of the plans, Spar has launched a Next Gen Retailer Programme aimed at identifying future retail leaders.

In the wake of the new strategy, Niamh Preston was appointed to the newly created position of category and innovation director.

She previously had roles with Tesco, as global business unit director and fresh food category director.
