Retailers are constantly looking for innovative food service options that will allow them to deliver value to consumers in their delis, yet still maintain a higher margin in this sector than they have traditionally derived from many other convenience/grocery categories. Brands such as Discovery believe they have found an answer with solutions such as its new hot wrap concept which it claims costs caterers half the price of a panini bread solution.

Foodservice is also often the area where retailers have a chance to stand out from their competition by offering a different range, and as a result quality and choice are essential. To this end manufacturers such as Boyne Valley have stressed that their foodservice products are of the same high quality as their consumer goods. This is essential considering the reputations of many shops are founded on the strength – or otherwise – of their deli and food to go category, and it is subsequently crucial that retailers get this offering right and create a valuable USP for delivering fresh and tasty produce.

The don of olives

Don Carlos is Ireland’s favourite brand of Spanish foods, renowned for quality and flavour. Don Carlos Olive Oil and range of Olives are sourced from the finest olive groves in the heart of the Andalucian countryside.

The brand’s foodservice products are of the same high standard that makes Don Carlos Ireland’s number one brand of olive oil.

Don Carlos Olive Oil is available in 5L bottles of both Pure and Extra Virgin. Don Carlos Olives are available in two variants for foodservice; Pitted Black Olives in 4kg tubs and Pitted Green Olives also in 4kg tubs.

Boyne Valley Honey is 100% pure and natural and offers a range of packaging formats for foodservice. The 1.05kg squeezy is ideal for smoothie bars with the larger 3.3kg squeezy honey the ideal format for chefs. Boyne Valley Honey is also available in pails from 3.7kg to 30kg for food manufacturing.

Discovery yields gold

Discovery has introduced a hot wraps concept, which it believes will prove a profitable option for quick service restaurants and bakery fast food sectors. Discovery Hot Wraps are available in six international recipes including a healthy eating option. The wraps use Discovery Santa Maria tortillas and flavourings. The brand believes the hot wrap concept will be able to steal customers from the panini sector because the wraps are easy to prepare and ready to eat in less than five minutes. Discovery has also calculated that, with 99% of paninis being freshly made, one panini bread will cost a caterer at least twice the price of a tortilla wrap. Discovery hot wraps will have a competitive consumer price point ranging from €2.99 to €3.89.

The 10” Discovery tortilla wrap can also come with Discovery branded parchment wrap and Discovery POS including sell sheets, leaflets, table stands and instructions. Discovery seasonings and sauces are also available, including Salsa, Guacamole, Cheese Sauce, Sliced Jalapenos and Fajita Seasoning Mix.

The brand also supplies Mexican Salsa; a combination of tomatoes, onions and peppers, which can complete any Mexican meal. Discovery’s Mexican salsa can be stored for up to 14 days once opened.

The brand’s best-selling seasoning by far, Discovery’s Fajita Seasoning Mix is a blend of 14 herbs, spices and flavourings; a must for any chef wanting to create the authentic smoky flavour of Tex-Mex wood-smoked fajitas. This mix is packed in handy 650g screw-top jars.

Discovery’s sliced green jalapenos and sliced red jalapenos are harvested in Mexico and processed in one of the country’s leading canners. Jalapenos are available in two case sizes according to a retailer’s requirements. If a business needs large quantities then the 2.8kg can is the best choice whereas smaller users will find the 500g re-sealable plastic jar more suitable.
Drawing on the “holy Creole trinity” of tomatoes, onions and peppers for its piquant flavour, Discovery’s Creole sauce is an essential ingredient in Tex-Mex favourites such as chicken or prawn creole. Discovery Creole sauce can be stored for up to five days once opened.

Discovery’s refried beans are packed in handy 415g cans by one of the U.K.’s leading BRC higher-level accredited companies.
And, produced in the same industry-leading factory as Discovery’s tortilla chips, the brand’s taco shells are made with naturally gluten-free corn and palm oil that contributes to future sustainability.
