Market analyst Mintel says that manufacturers of premium chocolate products need not worry about declining sales during the economic slow-down.

The analyst predicts that consumers will continue to favour fancy chocolate as the recession bites harder, and it will be mid-range chocolate products feeling the pinch.

“In the coming year it will be more important than ever for businesses to respond quickly and creatively to changing consumer needs and desires…The middle market will increasingly be squeezed and is going to have to prove its worth when faced with competition from newly improved basic lines,” says Mintel director of research, Joan Holleran.
