Chef Fiona Uyema launches new range of flavoured soy sauces

Inspired by her time in Japan, Fiona Uyema has created a healthy and tasty range of flavoured soy sauces to bring Japanese flavours to your everyday cooking. Fused by Fiona Uyema is a range of healthy and tasty flavoured soy sauces, with three flavours, Clever Classic, Cheeky Chilli and Glorious Ginger. Fiona participated in SuperValu’s Food Academy programme to launch her range and described the journey as “a steep learning curve with challenges along the way but it has been worth it to allow me to realise my dream”

Fused by Fiona Uyema is currently stocked in Supervalu stores in Kildare and South Dublin, Avoca stores and Fresh stores.

Hula Hoops Ireland donates €6,000 to Spinal Injuries Ireland

This summer, Ireland’s favourite take home snack, partnered with Spinal Injuries Ireland to raise awareness and much needed funds for the charity’s crucial services. Launching the initiative at the Women’s Mini Marathon on 6 June, Hula Hoops proudly supported Spinal Injuries Ireland for their summer Fun Never Grows Up – #GETHOOPING campaign and aimed to get Ireland hooping! They encouraged the public to share their Hula Hooping pictures and videos to Hula Hoops Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages all to raise awareness for the charity as well as being able to make €4 text donations.

Emirates reveals details about the world’s largest kitchen, infused with Irish touches

Emirates, the world’s largest international airline has revealed what goes on behind the scenes to feed its 52 million passengers in the sky. More than 520 chefs freshly prepare an average of 180,000 meals each day working to 1,548 different menus for the different routes, travel meal times and dietary requirements of its customers. Food and beverage stats were announced by Enda Corneille, country manager for Emirates in Ireland at Taste of Emirates, an event hosted at Avenue by Nick Munier whose chefs created a menu for guests inspired by Emirates with Middle Eastern influences. The event will be covered in greater detail in ShelfLife’s November issue.

Propercorn launches Limited Edition Twisted Honeycomb flavour

Propercorn has announced the latest addition to its colourful collection of award-winning, gluten-free popcorn: Limited Edition Twisted Honeycomb, which combines honey, Madagascan vanilla and sea salt. Created as part of Propercorn’s Institute of Flavour initiative, Twisted Honeycomb is the brainchild of 21 year old UCD graduate, Ashling O’Carroll from Dublin, who went up against regional finalists from across the UK and Ireland in a public vote. Thousands of votes were cast before Twisted Honeycomb was chosen as the winner in July. Ashling’s flavour has now been brought to life and hits Irish shelves this month.

Twisted Honeycomb is available in selected Spar, Eurospar, Mace and Londis stores in Dublin for €1.20. It can also be ordered through the Propercorn website, www.propercorn.com.

Take a seat at the global dining table with OpenTable

OpenTable, the world’s leading online restaurant booking platform and part of The Priceline Group, has announced new functionality that will enable diners to search, discover and make reservations at restaurants across the globe in their local language through OpenTable’s web and app properties. The global booking functionality brings together more than 38,000 restaurants across more than 20 countries, including renowned global dining hotspots such as Berlin, Dublin, London, New York, San Francisco, Sydney and Toronto. Languages currently supported include English, Spanish, French, German and Japanese. The launch also sees OpenTable bring together all its separate country apps into one multi-language global app.
