Lidl Ireland has announced a new supply deal with Monaghan-based supplier McCaghey Turkeys.
The new deal comes ahead of the festive season which Lidl Ireland predicts will see shoppers gobble up more than 90,000 turkeys this Christmas. The fresh and pre-prepared Irish turkeys will be stocked across all 223 Lidl stores in Ireland.
McCaghey’s selection
Among the festive products available at Lidl stores are Mc Caghey’s traditional Fresh Turkeys and Deluxe Bronze Free Range Slow Grown Turkeys as well as its Boned & Rolled Stuffed Turkey Joint and Boneless Turkey Breast Joint which have seen a surge in demand from shoppers prioritising convenience when preparing Christmas dinner.
Established in 1951, McCaghey Turkeys has grown to become Ireland’s largest family-owned turkey processor offering “the gold standard in turkey products” with all turkey farms fully Bord Bia approved and the company renowned for its succulent meat and commitment to freshness, quality and innovation.
McCaghey Turkeys is a longstanding partner to Lidl Ireland, having supplied the retailer with quality 100% Irish meat since 2009.
Since then, the partnership has grown to see the contract with Lidl expand into new product lines and increased supply of its best-selling turkey products as Lidl Ireland continues its ambitious growth plans to extend its store network across the country and bring its quality products at market-leading value to more Irish shoppers.
Over the past five years Lidl have grown their McCaughey’s seasonal range of turkey products from 14 to 22 this year. Since the beginning of the partnership, McCaghey Turkeys has enjoyed strong growth in the sector and is now a major employer in County Monaghan, with a team of 150 staff.
Covered for Christmas
“What has remained from day one is our commitment to guaranteeing the finest and freshest poultry products and we know that when it comes to quality and taste, we offer the best of the best,” said Pat McCaghey, owner, McCaghey Turkeys.
McCaghey noted that it’s an enormous privilege to farm and supply Christmas turkeys which are enjoyed by thousands of families across Ireland every year.
“Whether it’s our traditional fresh turkeys large enough to feed full families, or our convenience range of turkey breast joints, we’ve got Lidl shoppers covered this Christmas.”
Popular demand
“This latest supply deal in our ongoing partnership with McCaghey Turkeys reflects that commitment and we’re very proud to be able to offer 100% Irish turkeys farmed to the highest standards,” said Robert Hatton, buying director, Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Hatton noted that he has seen serious demand for the turkeys, including a real surge in shoppers opting for smaller turkey joints which are more convenient to cook with minimal preparation time.
“This year will be no exception and we predict to sell over 90,000 turkeys before Christmas Day. Customers know they can rely on us for the best quality, locally sourced produce at affordable prices, so we’re preparing for a busy festive period,” noted Hatton.
