Government ‘can’t keep putting its hand in your till’
RGDATA is calling on retailers to put a figure on the cost of the National Minimum Wage increase, warning that higher pay rates and employer PRSI will add thousands to annual wage bills
7 October 2026
The NMW increase means higher wage costs for retailers – and more employer PRSI going back to the State. Government is increasing your costs and then taking more money itself, says RGDATA.
For every full-time employee working 39 hours on the minimum wage, the additional cost will be approx. €1,750 a year. Across a workforce, that quickly becomes tens of thousands of euro.
What will the increase cost your business? Where does Government expect you to find this money?
RGDATA want to hear from you. Send the group your calculations, tell them what the increase will mean for your business.
RGDATA will take your figures and experiences directly to Government and push for action to reduce the additional costs being imposed on your business.
