This morning (26/05), Bord Bia is welcoming 150 trade buyers to a business breakfast at Bloom, the gardening, food and family festival held at the Phoenix Park in Dublin, which runs over the June bank holiday weekend.

This is the second year Bord Bia has hosted its business breakfast at Bloom, which brings together Irish retail and food service buyers, as well as overseas participation from Selfridges UK and The Health Store UK.

The attending retail buyers include Londis, Aldi, BWG, Dunnes, Gala, Lidl, Fallon and Byrne and Tesco and from a food service perspective Aer Lingus, Compass, Aramark, Doyle Collection, Musgraves, Pallas and Sodexo to mention but a few.

Speaking in advance of the event, Aidan Cotter, chief executive said: “Bord Bia`s Bloom in the Park provides a wonderful setting in which Irish food and drink producers – many of whom are participating at Bloom – to engage with buyers in the early morning peace of the Phoenix Park and then enjoy the festival atmosphere of one of the highlights of the Irish social calendar”.

Yesterday over 15,000 people attended the opening day, a 30% increase on opening day figures from 2014. Crowds enjoyed old favourites such as the spectacular award winning show gardens and the Bord Bia Quality Kitchen stage, featuring some of Ireland’s top chefs including Catherine Fulvio and Neven Maguire as well as some new additions such as Banter at Bloom.

Opening day at Bloom is always enjoyed by a host of VIP visitors. This year, the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins and his wife Sabina, An Tanaiste Joan Burton, and the Minister for Agriculture, Marine and Food Simon Coveney TD all enjoyed a tour of the multi-award winning show gardens by Bloom show manager Gary Graham and Bord Bia Chief Executive Aidan Cotter.

Bloom 2015 runs until Monday 1 June, opening 9am – 6pm daily. Tickets are priced between €14 – €20 and children go free. While parking will be available onsite, a number of courtesy shuttle buses will run from Parkgate Street to Bloom from 8.30am – 7pm each day. For more information see www.bloominthepark.com
