Bisto has announced the Bisto Children’s Book of the Year Awards 2008/2009. Bisto’s 19th year sponsoring the prestigious awards which recognise excellence in children’s literature by Irish authors, illustrators and publishers, saw Siobhan Dowd named overall winner for her book Bog Child. Siobhan, aged 47, sadly passed away in August 2007 after a long illness. Her sister Oona Emerson accepted the trophy and e10,000 cheque. The prize money will be donated to The Siobhan Dowd Trust which Siobhan established before she died to help disadvantaged children improve their reading skills. Premier Foods supported the awards with promotions in supermarkets nationwide.
