The Big Grill Festival returns to Dublin’s Herbert Park this weekend, to celebrate cooking with fire and smoke in all its forms.

Now in its fourth year, the Big Grill bills itself as the biggest and best outdoor cooking bash of the summer, with 20,000 visitors given the chance to smell and taste and discover all kinds of barbecue cooking from all over the world, with some of the biggest names in cuisine and beyond attending to demonstrate their specialties.

For this year’s line up, festival co-founder Andy Noonan has brought in leading chefs and
pitmasters from all over the world to cook up a storm. There is only one rule: they must cook with live fire using natural charcoal and wood only; no gas or electricity. Expect some ambitious and stunning fire pit builds.

“Professional carnivore” Nick Solares Big Grill ‘Bastecamp’, presents the new smoking hub of the festival. There he will host fires, feasts, chats, demos and general grilling greatness all weekend. All the way from South Carolina, the Hometeam Barbecue Crew will bring a genuine flavour of Charleston grilling to Herbert Park with pitmasters Madison Ruckel and Taylor Garrigan’s unique take on ‘que. Expect whole hog, lamb ham, melting brisket and more.

Also cooking it up over the weekend will be award-winning author of “Smoked”, Charlotte Pike, who will demo her modern twist on this ancient technique. Vegetables will be on the menu too as Ramael Scully, head chef at Nopi cooks a vegetable focused menu with Middle Eastern flavours alongside Josh Katz of Berber & Q .

All these experts and more will be cooking all weekend, while the festival will also have a world-class beer offering, music, entertainment and much more.

Further details on the festival and tickets (from €15) for the events are available on the website
