Aldi has announced that the company is to source all the milk for its 75 Irish stores from Irish suppliers. The new range called Cowbelle Irish Milk will retail at 75c per litre, while the Total Milk (with added vitamins) and Organic Milk versions will be available for 99c per litre.
Arrabawn Dairies in Galway will supply the new range which is to feature the National Dairy Council ‘Farmed in the Republic of Ireland’ logo.
Up to now most of Aldi’s private label milk has been sourced from Northern Ireland.
When the deal was announced at the end of March an Aldi spokesperson said: "We are proud to announce our partnership with Arrabawn Dairies today that will see Irish milk available at each Aldi store throughout the country. As a company we are committed to providing our customers with the first rate Irish products they desire at very competitive prices."
Aldi works with over 70 Irish suppliers and all of Aldi’s fresh meat and poultry, eggs, cheddar cheese, flour, and many ambient products come from Irish suppliers.
"We are committed to increasing the number of Irish suppliers we work with and introducing more Irish sourced products to our stores. Our Irish buying department’s door is always open to new Irish suppliers and we would encourage suppliers to contact us if they are interested in trading," said the spokesperson.
Aldi and Bord Bia have run workshops for existing and prospective new suppliers over the last few years.
