The shortlist of nominees for the 2019 Irish Quality Food & Drink Awards is now available, comprising the finest food and drink products from every corner of the country. The complete shortlist is available on the awards website.

Overall winners will be announced at a special gala event on 24 October at Dublin’s Clayton Hotel, in a night that will “celebrate the very best of Irish food and drink”.

Shortlisted products have made it through a rigourous, month-long judging process at the Limerick Institute of Technology, conducted by 150 independent judges. Judges spanned chefs and nutritionists, packaging experts and food technologists from around Ireland and the UK. They evaluated more than one thousand products from small producers, wholesalers, foodservice and retailers from all over Ireland. The judging took place during July at the Limerick Institute of Technology.

According to Beckie Dart, director of the Irish Quality Food & Drink Awards, there were entries from the major supermarkets including Tesco, Aldi, Lidl and Dunnes as well as a large array of small and independent food producers across Irelan.  including those who showcased their products in our highly successful Meet the Buyer event earlier in the year.

“The quality of entries was exceptional,” said Dart, “reflecting the growing confidence and creativity of the Irish food industry.”

The awards have introduced a new vegetarian and vegan category this year, due to the growing demand from consumers for this type of food product.

“The Irish Quality Food and Drink Award is one of the most recognisable and powerful logos in the Irish food and drink industry,” Beckie Dart added, “providing shoppers with a real sense of confidence in buying the products that carry its accreditation.”
