Gala commences search for Ireland’s Most Inspirational People
Gala has joined forces with the Sunday Independent to launch the first-ever Inspiration Awards, searching for Ireland’s unsung heroes who selflessly change lives for the better every day in their local communities.

Gala Retail has joined forces with the Sunday Independent to launch the first-ever Sunday Independent/Gala Retail Inspiration Awards, searching for Ireland’s unsung heroes who make Ireland a better place with their selfless acts and inspirational deeds.
With six categories covering young people, sports, caring, environmental change, charity and community; the awards will be judged by an esteemed panel including Sunday Independent columnist and Health & Wellness coach, Alison Canavan.
Out of the six category winners, an overall Inspirational Person of the Year will be crowned at the annual Gala Awards at The Marker Hotel in Dublin on November 20.
“We want to shine a light on those people who inspire us all with their acts of kindness and efforts to helps others,” explains Cormac Courke, Sunday Independent editor, “whether it be in their community, sporting organisation or for charity.
“We all know people who make a difference to the lives of others in Ireland,” he said, “so we’re encouraging our readers to nominate inspirational people from their communities who we can acknowledge at our Gala awards.”
According to CEO Gary Desmond, Gala Retail the awards aim to pay homage to people from across Ireland who play their part creating a better Ireland. “Our stores hear about inspirational stories every day from their shoppers and their communities,” said Desmond, “and this is our chance to give back and support those inspirational people who selflessly go over and above for others.”
Presented by Miriam O’Callaghan, the Sunday Independent/Gala Retail Inspiration Awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday 20 November 2019 at The Marker Hotel in Dublin.
