Aldi Fairtrade roses see year-on-year boost
2016 saw sales of Aldi Fairtrade Roses jump by 20%, making it the largest seller of Fairtrade flowers in Ireland, the company has announced.

Aldi has marked 2017 Fairtrade Fortnight with the announcement that sales of its Fairtrade roses grew by an impressive 20% during 2016, making it the largest seller of Fairtrade flowers in Ireland.
An impressive 2m Fairtrade roses were sold by the German chain in 2016. Every one of them originated in Ethiopia, and were purchased through the Sher Project, the country’s largest flower growing farm.
The rest of Aldi’s Fairtrade range experienced strong sales during 2016, underlining the strong market for such products in Ireland. The company revealed that it sold a spectacular 48 tonnes of Specially Selected Colombian Fairtrade Instant Coffee -a 50% year-on-year increase – and more that 400,000 bars of Moser Roth Dark Chocolate – also a 50% increase.
As well as Fairtrade, Aldi also supports products originated by the Rainforest Alliance, and last year became the first retailer to source 100% of its bananas from sustainable sources.
