Spar celebrated Fair City’s 4,000th episode with the cast of Ireland’s most popular soap. The series which has been on air since 1989 continues to be hugely popular with Irish audiences attracting an average audience of 421,000* four times a week at 8pm on RTÉ One. The soap continues to be particularly popular with younger female viewers, attracting a 35% share among women 15+.

Spar has featured heavily in Carrigstown since 2012 when a Spar store was opened and thus began its product placement advertising with the RTÉ soap, the first of its kind in the Irish market.

According to Willie O’Byrne, managing director of BWG Foods, owners and operators of the Spar brand in Ireland: “Spar would like to congratulate the fantastic cast and crew of Fair City on the 4000th episode. This hugely popular soap is as relevant today as it was back in 1989. Spar is delighted to be an integral part of Carrigstown and it has been great to see so much drama take place in the Spar store over the past number of years.”

To mark its 4,000th episode, viewers can expect nail-biting drama throughout the week in Carrigstown when the Bishops and Brennan clans go head-to-head.  Things will take a turn for the worst as the two long-standing and notorious families go to war and the ultimate betrayal is exposed.  Other storylines will include the departure of one of Carrigstown’s much loved regulars, the return of local thug Cathal Spillane and a shocking revelation concerning Katy’s disappearance; when we finally find out if Katy is dead or alive.

(On average *420K individuals watch Fair City on RTÉ One
