Dessie McDonald, Martin Food Equipment’s senior service engineer for the Louth and Down areas, is among the 25 volunteers of ‘Chernobyl Aid’ travelling this year to the town of Cherven to help at a large state-run institute where some 340 mentally and physically disabled young adults reside.

The volunteers work to improve basic facilities and quality of living for the patients.

In 2006 Martin Food Equipment donated two combi ovens to replace an antiquated 60 year old oven, sending two more in 2007, along with its senior service engineer, Dessie McDonald. Dessie helped to make such an impact with his electrical skills last year, he’s going out again this year for a further two weeks in September.

David Burke, chairman of Chernobyl Aid said, “Dessie and Martin Food Equipment’s contribution has helped to make a real difference to these people and their quality of life. Their support and care in helping to improve the situation in Chevren has been magnificent.”
