Limerick Spirits Co. has recently announced that its Yankee Clipper Coffee Liqueur will be available in Lidl stores across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland from 10 September 2026, as part of Lidl’s Kickstart programme.

The nationwide launch represents a major milestone for the independent, family-owned Irish spirits company and will introduce Yankee Clipper to customers throughout the island of Ireland.

At the heart of Yankee Clipper is Limerick Whiskey, the company’s own grain-to-glass Irish whiskey, produced using locally grown Irish barley and developed as part of Limerick Spirits Co.’s mission to revive the distilling heritage of the region.

Grain to glass

From grain to glass, the whiskey begins with barley grown locally in Ireland before being malted, distilled and matured as part of the company’s long-term programme to create a new generation of whiskey with a strong connection to Limerick.

Yankee Clipper Coffee Liqueur brings that whiskey together with richly roasted coffee in a modern reimagining of one of Ireland’s most famous drinks: the Irish Coffee, first created at Foynes in County Limerick during the golden age of transatlantic aviation.

In the 1930s and 1940s, Foynes became one of Europe’s great gateways to North America, welcoming the famous flying boats that carried passengers between Ireland and the United States. Among them was Pan American Airways’ celebrated Yankee Clipper.

It was here that coffee and Irish whiskey famously came together with the creation of Irish Coffee, originally served to warm passengers arriving from journeys across the Atlantic.

Yankee Clipper Coffee Liqueur takes inspiration from that historic first marriage of coffee and Irish whiskey, reimagining it for a new generation using Limerick Spirits Co.’s own grain-to-glass whiskey.

The 20% ABV liqueur delivers rich roasted coffee character, gentle sweetness and the warmth and complexity of Irish whiskey.

It can be enjoyed simply over ice or used to create an Espresso Martini, Baby Stout or Irish Coffee, while also working particularly well poured over ice cream or incorporated into desserts such as tiramisu.

Nicholas Ryan, founder of Limerick Spirits Co., said: “Getting Yankee Clipper onto shelves across Lidl stores in Ireland and Northern Ireland is a huge moment for us as a small independent Irish producer.

“What makes this particularly special for us is that Yankee Clipper is built around our own Limerick Whiskey.

“We have been developing our whiskey from grain to glass using locally grown barley, with the ambition of putting Limerick back on the Irish whiskey map.

“The story behind Yankee Clipper brings together two important parts of that heritage.

“Foynes was where coffee and Irish whiskey famously met with the creation of Irish Coffee, and we are now using our own Limerick Whiskey to reimagine that original marriage in a contemporary Irish coffee liqueur.

“For an independent company like ours, having the opportunity to introduce that story and our whiskey to Lidl customers right across the island of Ireland is incredibly exciting.”

The Lidl launch marks another important step in Limerick Spirits Co.’s ambition to revive and celebrate the distilling heritage of Limerick.

The company was founded with the long-term objective of returning whiskey production associated with Limerick to the market, combining locally grown grain, modern whiskey making and stories rooted in the region’s historic connection with distilling, trade and hospitality.

Its grain-to-glass Limerick Whiskey programme uses locally grown barley and forms the foundation for a growing range of Irish whiskey and spirits.

The company’s whiskeys and new make spirit have already received international recognition, including medals at the International Wine & Spirit Competition .

The Yankee Clipper launch through Lidl’s Kickstart programme gives Limerick Spirits Co. its largest retail presence to date and provides an opportunity to introduce its grain-to-glass whiskey story to customers across Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Yankee Clipper Coffee Liqueur will be available in Lidl stores throughout the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland from 10 September 2026, while stocks last.
