Texaco Spar Parkway triumphs at ShelfLife C-Store Awards 2019

Texaco Spar Parkway in Co. Limerick has won the overall award for Convenience Store of the Year at the 2019 ShelfLife C-Store Awards. In total, 42 awards were presented on the night in a range of categories, including the award for Convenience Champion 2019, which was presented to Peter Boland of the Alliance for Insurance Reform.
29 November 2019
Texaco Spar Parkway in Limerick has been named National Convenience Store of the Year 2019, beating off stiff competition to scoop the ultimate accolade at the ShelfLife National C-Store Awards 2019.
Ireland’s top retailers and brands gathered at Dublin’s Citywest Hotel last night to attend the prestigious ceremony. Now in their 19th year, the C-Store Awards are the only comprehensive and independently judged business accolades for the convenience store sector.
Together with returning master of ceremonies Marty Whelan, ShelfLife welcomed more than 450 guests from across the industry. A total of 42 awards were presented, celebrating the industry’s finest stores and people in a diverse range of categories.
The judges said of this year’s supreme national winner, Texaco Spar Parkway in Limerick: “This store focuses on first rate fresh foodservice coupled with a well merchandised grocery area. The strong fresh food range is staffed by a knowledgeable friendly team; the counters are fresh and clean and the products well-priced. A very well laid out store, the facilities are well proportioned and spotlessly clean which adds to the overall experience.”
Commenting on the dedication required to win a C-Store Award, ShelfLife publisher John McDonald said: “Once again, our judges were extremely impressed with the calibre of entrants across the country. All the winners should be extremely proud of themselves, their teams and the levels of service offered. Staff who continually go the extra mile to ensure all shoppers know they are valued customers, combined with high store standards and innovative design features, ensure Ireland’s convenience store sector is admired internationally and held up as the standard to which others aspire.”
The ceremony included a special presentation of the Convenience Champion of the Year 2019, which was awarded to Peter Boland, director of the Alliance for Insurance Reform.
Peter Boland was deemed a worthy winner given the serious financial repercussions of Ireland’s ‘compensation culture’ for retailers. This has seen insurance premiums soar during the past decade, due to false and exaggerated claims.
He has been instrumental in driving the success of the Alliance for Insurance Reform since its establishment last year, in areas including the setting up of the Judicial Council, the legal services regulatory authority and the National Claims Information database. Peter Boland continues to push for urgently needed reform, as he explained in more depth to the audience on the night.
