Tesco Ireland today (7 July) announced its plans to create 400 new jobs across the country.

These new jobs will bring Tesco Ireland’s permanent workforce to over 13,500 colleagues.

Among the career opportunities being offered across the country will be roles for customer assistants, grocery home delivery (GHS) drivers and line managers.

Big investment

According to the retailer, this initiative is part of a significant €40 million investment aimed at expanding its operations by opening 10 new stores nationwide over the next 12 months.

Announcing the new jobs, Geoff Byrne, CEO, Tesco Ireland, said: “This €40 million investment underscores our commitment to maintaining our position as a leading employer and retailer in Ireland.

“Our colleagues are at the heart of our business, and we look forward to welcoming new team members this year and recognising them with market-leading reward and benefits.”

New stores

Allied to this, Tesco also announced the opening of 10 new Tesco stores nationwide, both larger supermarkets and smaller Express shops, bringing Tesco’s total presence in Ireland to 193 stores.

Notably, 100 of these new opportunities will be created at Tesco’s new Fermoy store in Co. Cork, set to open at the end of July.

In addition to Cork, new Tesco stores will be opened in Dublin, Galway, Louth, and Meath, with recruitment for supermarkets in both the M1 Retail Park and Howth set to start in the autumn.

Commenting on this announcement, Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke, added: “The creation of these jobs, particularly with the opening of 10 new stores across several counties including Cork, Dublin, and Galway, is a clear endorsement of Ireland’s retail sector and workforce.

“Our Programme for Government commits to driving balanced regional development and further investment in rural communities, and this multi-million-euro investment is a prime example of positive regional impact.”
