The Talty family, owners and operators of Talty’s Mace Lissycasey, had reason to celebrate recently when it was revealed they sold the winning lottery ticket for Saturday night’s Lotto draw.

The jackpot was a whopping €4,041,306 and the National Lottery has confirmed a player in the Banner County scooped the prize. The winner has not come forward to collect their prize so far but the win is creating quite a buzz in Lissycasey.

“We are absolutely over the moon to have sold the winning Lotto ticket,” said Cathal Talty. “Since the weekend there was a lot of speculation locally about where the winning ticket was and then when the call came through from our National Lottery rep, I thought – ‘This has to be something to do with the winning ticket – It could be us’ and low and behold, it was! My family has run this business for more than 45 years in Lisseycasey, since my parents TJ and Maire set it up, and it’s the first time we’ve sold a major National Lottery winning ticket so we’re all thrilled.”

“The majority of our trade in these times is from the local community,” he continued. “Before the health restrictions we would have had a lot of passing trade as Lisseycasey is a gateway to West Clare and a lot of holidaymakers would have passed through on the way to the West Clare coastline but obviously that has quietened at the moment. However, this is great news for our town and I hope it is one of our regular customers. Whoever the lucky person is, I’m sure the €4 million will find a good home.”

With the country in lockdown due to the Covid-19 coronavirus and people’s movements officially restricted to a 5km of their homes it is likely the winner is a local, which has heightened the excitement in the area. The lucky Clare winner marks the fifth Lotto jackpot win of 2020.

The winning did not stop at the top moreover, as a lucky player in Mace in Glasnevin won a cool €250,000 after winning the top prize on Lotto Plus 2.
