SuperValu has launched a new set of guidelines aimed at providing guidance and support to the beef farmers who supply its store. The Beef Producer Guidelines report was developed in association with Kepak and ABP, meat producers which supply SuperValu outlets across Ireland by way of independent Irish farmers.

SuperValu says the objective of the guidelines is to reinforce its commitment to sourcing high-quality beef in a responsible manner, by underlining the retailer’s leadership position on sustainability, by supporting local farmers and by encouraging more efficient use of food resources.

The guidelines provide a link between producers and consumers, offering advice and guidance to farmers on improving the quality of beef under a range of headings, including breeding and genetics, animal nutrition, housing management and health. SuperValu also hopes that the guidelines will help contribute to consistent beef quality for its independent store network and consumers.

Commenting at the launch of the Beef Producer Guidelines, Martin Kelleher, managing director, SuperValu, said the guide provides the support and advice that Irish beef producers need to access our supply chain and to get a better return on their investment. “SuperValu supports more local food businesses in communities across the country than any other grocery retailer,” he said. “These guidelines guarantee that SuperValu stores around the country also have access to a consistent supply of high-quality, locally sourced beef.”
