Grocery retailer SuperValu will create 20 new jobs in a new insurance offering, for which it is joining forces with global insurance giant AIG. The company says it is making the move after feedback from its 2.6m customers suggested that it was one of a number of new services they would like to see; 58% of car insurance holders and 38% of home insurance holders told Red C they were likely to swithc from their current provider. These results gave the retailer the incentive to move forward with the plan.

Under the new area, SuperValu says it will focus on its customer base by rewarding shoppers who sign up for home or car insurance with money off vouchers to spend in-store. Policy discounts will also be available.

Martin Kelleher, MD of SuperValu said that his company’s position as one of Ireland’s most trusted brands, combined with low faith in traditional financial institutions, resulted in a lot of interest from customers in its new Insurance offers. “We believe that we can combine great discounts with the quality and service one would expect from SuperValu,” Kelleher said.
