Sales results from recent years have emphasized the continued importance of the Eason season as a key period for confectionery and other indulgent treats. Last year, Visa reported that Kantar Worldpanel Ireland data showed sales of Easter eggs and seasonal chocolate confectionery spiked by 75.2% in March. Indeed, Andrew Harker, associate director at IHS Markit commented last year that food and drink retailers had “benefited from the run-up to the Easter period at the end of the month [March], seeing growth hit a two-year high”.

Meanwhile, with three-quarters of the population treating themselves to at least one Easter egg in 2017, Kantar Worldpanel reported that this resulted in a €3 million boost to the market. In fact, Kantar Worldpanel’s grocery market share report for Ireland during the 12 weeks to 23 April 2017 revealed notable surges in sales of seasonal items such as hot cross buns (+24%), Easter eggs (+9%) and fresh lamb (+10%).

Legendary Irish combination

Lir Chocolates and Guinness have teamed up to create an ideal Easter gift for fans of the black stuff, the Guinness Easter Egg

Lir Chocolates and Guinness have teamed up to create an ideal Easter gift for fans of the black stuff, the Guinness Easter Egg

The luxury Guinness confectionery range celebrates the perfect marriage of two exceptional brands; Lir Chocolates and Guinness. Legendary Irish chocolatier, Lir has come together with Guinness, the world’s most famous stout, to create a new taste experience for Guinness lovers. The roasted creamy notes of Guinness complement Lir’s sumptuous luxury chocolate, resulting in a harmonious combination of classic flavour and sophisticated smoothness.

The Guinness Easter Egg combines a luxury dark chocolate shell presented with eight mini chocolate pints – dark and white chocolates with a Guinness flavoured centre, in the iconic Guinness pint shape. It turns out that Guinness, a flavour which has been attracting fans for two centuries, is enjoyable in chocolate form as well as in liquid form. The mini chocolate Guinness pints, which are also sold separately, have proved a particular hit with almost 2.5 million mini pints sold in 2018 alone. This Guinness Easter Egg is the ideal gift for any Guinness fan in your customers’ lives.

The hand-decorated, luxury Guinness Easter Egg (230g) is priced at €13 and is stocked by selected Tesco, Dunnes, Supervalu, Spar, Eurospar, Londis and Mace stores.

Lir Chocolates are inspired by another Irish legend, the Children of Lir, an epic tale of love, beauty, magic, passion and transformation. Over 30 years ago, Lir started out in humble fashion on the kitchen table of co-founder, Connie Doody, with a simple vision of creating joy and happiness for lovers of fine, chocolate confections. Lir’s range of hand-finished Easter Eggs remains true to that ethos and also demonstrates the excitement and innovation that Lir brings to the category.
