Spirits prices up 7.2% over the year

Average prices rose by 0.3% in April compared with April 2013 according to CSO figures, with off-trade Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco prices going up by 3.7% and Restaurant & Hotel prices rising by 2.0%.

Off-trade Alcoholic Beverage & Tobacco prices fell by 0.3% in April compared to March as consumer prices generally fell by 0.1%.

Overall, off-trade alcohol prices rose 4.6% in the year but fell by 0.4% compared to March.

This comprised a 7.2% increase in spirits prices over the year, a 4.3% increase in wine prices and a 2.3% increase in beer prices over the course of the year.

Over the course of the month spirits prices rose 2.1% but wine and beer prices fell by 0.8%.

In the on-trade, prices in licensed premises rose by 3.0% during the year but they remained flat against March 2014 prices.

Within this on-trade spirits prices went up by 3.5% while wine went up 3.3% and beer by 3.0%. Soft drinks & mineral water prices rose by 1.4% in the on-trade in April compared to April 2013.

Everything except wine – which rose in price by 0.1% – level-pegged with prices in March.

Nightclub prices rose 0.2% in the year and by 0.4% over March 2014 prices.
