Safefood has appointed Dr Gary A. Kearney as director of food science. He now leads the chemistry, toxicology and microbiology disciplines within the organisation and is responsible for managing its research programme and specialised laboratory services.

Kearney graduated from UCC in 1993 with an MSc in Organic Chemistry and a PhD in Analytical Chemistry. He also holds an MA in Health Care Management from the Institute of Public Administration in Dublin.
