Detector dog assists Revenue in seizing millions of cigarettes at Dublin Port
2 April 2025
Revenue has reported that it has recently seized millions of cigarettes at Dublin Port with the assistance of a detector dog.
The illicit cigarettes, branded ‘Omega’, have an estimated value of over €6,900,000 with an estimated loss to the exchequer of almost €5,459,500.
Seizing at sea
The seizure came as Revenue officers searched an unaccompanied container that disembarked from a ship from Antwerp.
The container originated in the United Arab Emirates before arriving at Dublin Port.
Milo, Revenue’s detector dog, helped with the bust that led to the seizing of over seven million cigarettes.
This comes as part of the agency’s ongoing operations that are targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes and tobacco in the shadow economy.
Revenue is reaching out to businesses and members of the public to let them know that if they have any information regarding smuggling, they can get in touch confidentially.
The number they can be reached on is 1800 295 295.
