The ShelfLife team would like to share our sincere condolences with the family, friends and colleagues of Michael Elliott of Elliotts Cash & Carry, who sadly passed away last Wednesday, following a heart attack.

Tom Shipsey, CEO of Stonehouse, shared a poignant tribute to Michael earlier today with industry colleagues, describing him as an “extremely witty” individual who “treated everyone with the same respect and humanity”.

“It is with a profound sense of loss and sadness that I report the passing of Michael Elliott of Elliotts Cash & Carry,” Shipsey wrote.

“Mick was a mixture of such wonderful traits, unassuming yet larger than life; firm but kind, tough but caring, an astute, serious businessman and also someone who certainly knew how to party. Mick was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, colleague and more. He had no airs or graces. Title or position meant nothing to Mick. He treated everyone who passed his doorstep with the same respect and humanity. Suppliers throughout the country will bear testament to this. The affection suppliers had for Mick and the entire Elliott family is indeed a reflection of how Mick lived and the principles that were important to him.”

Shipsey went on to describe Mick as “funny and extremely witty. His contributions to Stonehouse were always fair and with the best interest of all members despite whether the decision to be taken wasn’t a good one for Elliotts. His contribution and presence will be missed dearly.

“On behalf of all the board, the members of Stonehouse and the team here in central office, may I wish Susan, Stephen, Lorna, Brian and the entire Elliott family our heartfelt sympathies.

“May he rest in peace.”
