INMRetailTerms

Retailers recently received two letters informing them of a number of changes to the recommended retail prices and wholesale terms for Independent Newspapers’ titles.

Coming into force from today – the week beginning Monday, 29 February 2016 – the new publisher terms include a loyalty rebate to be paid directly by Independent Newspapers in January 2017, covering the period 29.02.16 to 31.12.16.

Newspread’s notice of changes to retailers was accompanied by a letter from Independent Newspapers (Irl.) Ltd.

This stated that the “new terms reflect the continued superior value of Independent Newspapers’ titles to your business, delivering more cash to your till than any other publications.

“The titles where there has been an increase in RRP will continue to deliver the same net cash margin to your business, regardless of the change in terms,” the letter continued.

The newspaper group added that “a commitment from Independent Newspapers to deliver continued investment in our titles and to back this with aggressive marketing and promotional activity to drive customers into your store” was “at the core” of the new announcement.

The rebate is underwritten by INM until February 2017 at least, meaning that it is guaranteed to be paid regardless of performance. The rebate will be paid back to retailers through Newspread as a separate transaction.
