Marks & Spencer has introduced Irish Maris Peer new potatoes to its shelves this summer, grown by farmer Fred Shuttleworth in Gormanstown, Co Meath. Stewart Nisbet, Marks & Spencer’s head of foods for Ireland, said: “We are really pleased to be introducing another Irish product to our shelves from a terrific potato grower. Currently 15% of products in M&S food halls are from the island of Ireland and we are hoping to double this to 30% in the next few years.”

The potatoes are packed by Craigavon-based packing company Wilson’s Country, which will also be providing Marks & Spencer with new season rooster potatoes later this year.

At present Irish producers supply over 500 product lines to M&S stores in Ireland, including poultry, red meat, milk, cheese, bread, smoked salmon, fruit, salads and vegetables.
