Lidl Ireland has confirmed it will open the doors to its brand-new store in Ballysimon, Limerick, on Thursday 20 February at 8:00am, promising great savings for local shoppers and taking the retailer’s store count to five in the county and 182 within Ireland.
Located off the Groody Road, beside Limerick Educate Together Secondary School and the new Bons Secours Hospital which is under construction, the new Lidl store represents the first major retail offering in the area and has created 30 permanent new retail jobs for the local community.
Official opening
Limerick Ladies Gaelic Footballer Yvonne Lee will join the store team on the morning to cut the ribbon and officially open the new store.
Along with opening day entertainment and middle aisle offers, early bird shoppers first in the queue will receive complimentary Lidl vouchers to spend in-store.
Local charity Milford Hospice will also benefit from a donation of €1,000 in Lidl vouchers from the Ballysimon store team.
The new Lidl store boasts a large sales floor, offering customers a premium shopping experience, with wide aisles, self-service check outs, two Deposit Return Scheme machines, long tills as well as an in-store bakery and off licence.
Externally, the store benefits from regenerative landscaping and a spacious customer car park with dedicated EV charging spaces.
Sustainability is at the forefront of the Ballysimon store, with the retailer’s pioneering concept design incorporating an ISO 50001-certified energy management system, high performing energy efficient technologies, dedicated EV charging spaces and the installation of solar panels.
Major investment
The opening of Lidl’s Ballysimon store represents a major investment for Lidl, both in the local community and in its wider retail estate portfolio continuing the retailer’s ambitious expansion plans.
Since its inception, Lidl has been a pillar of the Limerick community since 2000 where it opened its first Limerick store Childers Road, and now has stores at Dock Road, Ennis Road, Castletroy and now Ballysimon.
“Lidl celebrates its 25th Anniversary in Ireland this year and it is great to kick off celebrations and mark this significant milestone with the opening of our latest store in the region,” said James Purcell, regional property director, Lidl Ireland.
Purcell noted that local shoppers will now benefit from quality products at market-leading prices.
“We look forward to welcoming them to enjoy an unrivalled shopping experience with Ireland’s best value supermarket.”
Big boost
“Lidl has been a great partner to LGFA for years, and it’s fantastic to see them investing more in our community. This new store is a big boost for the area, and I can’t wait to celebrate with everyone on 20 February,” said Yvonne Lee, Limerick LGFA player.
Lidl Ireland currently employs more than 6,000 employees in its 181 stores, Head Office in Tallaght and three distribution centres and regional offices based in Charleville, Mullingar, and Newbridge.
