Lidl Ireland has confirmed it will open the doors to its new store in Ballymahon Co. Longford on Thursday 20 November 2025 at 8:00am.

The retailer is expanding with a second store in County Longford, bringing its ‘More to Value’ proposition to Ballymahon.

Located on Church view, Main St. Ballymahon, the opening of the new Lidl store marks a major milestone in the retailer’s ambitious expansion programme and creates 25 permanent retail jobs for the community in what has been a highly anticipated opening, with planning permission granted earlier this year.

Longford county LGFA vice-captain, Katie Crawford will have the honour of cutting the ribbon at 8:00am sharp on Thursday 20 November and meeting and greeting shoppers as they enjoy opening day festivities.

Lidl Ballymahon will have a great range of opening day offers available for customers and the first ten shoppers through the doors will receive complimentary Lidl gift vouchers to redeem in-store.

As part of its commitment to the local community, the Lidl Ballymahon store team has selected local charity Bridgeways Family Resource Centre, who will receive a generous donation of €1,000 in Lidl vouchers on opening day.

Bridgeways Family Resource Centre provides a full range of activities for the whole community and believes in justice, equality and inclusivity.

The new Ballymahon store reflects Lidl’s established ‘concept’ design and features a spacious sales floor, offering a premier shopping experience for customers including self-service checkouts, long tills, and the popular in-store bakery offering fresh baked goods daily.

Sustainability is a key focus for the Ballymahon store as the retail unit incorporates an ISO 50001-certified energy management system.

This includes high performing energy efficient technologies, the installation of solar panels (PV panels), LED lighting with Dali control, heat recovery systems, a DRS Machine, ample parking and electric vehicle (EV) charging points further supports sustainable transport options for customers and store teams.

Ahead of the store opening Tom McAuliffe, regional managing director for Lidl Ireland said: “We are thrilled to announce the upcoming opening of our new Lidl store in Ballymahon on Thursday 20th November.

“This new store represents a substantial investment in the local economy, creating long-term employment opportunities for the area.

“Designed with a focus on customer experience and sustainability, the innovative store features an energy-efficient design, unique amenities, and our commitment to offering high-quality products at market-leading value.

“We are grateful for the incredible support from the local community and eagerly anticipate welcoming shoppers to experience our new store next week.”

Longford county LGFA vice-captain, Katie Crawford, added: “As a Longford local, I was thrilled to be invited to open the brand new Lidl store in Ballymahon next week and I am really looking forward to meeting all the shoppers on opening day.

“Lidl has been a fantastic partner to the LGFA for years, and it’s great to witness them investing even more in our community.

“This new store is a huge boost for the area, by revitalizing the area and creating new jobs, but also by providing local shoppers with access to Lidl’s exceptional quality food at great value and we can’t wait to celebrate with everyone on November 20.”

Lidl opened its first store in Longford in 2000 which was redeveloped last year.

Lidl’s investment in Longford contributes significantly to the local economy.

Earlier this year, Lidl Ireland confirmed that a total of €108 million worth of goods and services was procured from 13 suppliers and business partners across Longford in 2024.

Key suppliers include Panelto Foods, who have been supplying panini breads since 2011.

In 2023, Panelto Foods secured a €22 million supply deal to bring their premium baked breads to Lidl stores across the island of Ireland and export their products to 950 Lidl stores in Great Britain.

Lidl Ireland was named a ‘Top Employer’ by the Top Employers Institute earlier this year for the fifth year running.

The retailer was also named Most Reputable Retailer and Most Value for Money Organisation in the 2025 RepTrak Ireland study, and was named Most Sustainable Retailer in Ireland, ranking #3 in the RepTrak Sustainability Index for 2024.

Lidl Ireland currently employs more than 6,000 employees in its 188 stores, Head Office in Tallaght and three distribution centres and regional offices.

Lidl Ballymahon will be open daily: Monday – Saturday 8:00am – 10:00pm, and Sunday 9:00am – 9:00pm.
