Lidl Ireland has confirmed it will open the doors to a new store in Killorglin, Co. Kerry on Thursday 13 November 2025 at 8am, creating 30 new jobs.

Located on Laharn Road, the opening of Lidl Killorglin marks a ‘major milestone in the retailer’s ambitious expansion programm in what has been a highly anticipated opening, with planning permission granted earlier this year’.

Ahead of the store opening Tara O’Connor, regional managing director, Lidl Ireland, said: “At Lidl, we have had an ambition to bring our market leading value to Killorglin for many years and we are delighted to finally welcome the local community to the new store next week when doors open on Thursday.”

“The Killorglin store represents a major investment for Lidl, contributing significantly to the local economy and providing long term employment for the area.”

Brand ambassador

Kerry ladies Gaelic football star and Lidl ambassador Siofra O’Shea will have the honour of cutting the ribbon at 8am sharp on the day.

Commenting on the announcement, O’ Shea, said: “Lidl has been a long-standing supporter of LGFA across Ireland for a decade now and it’s great to see that Lidl’s commitment extends far beyond just grocery aisles – it’s about fostering local growth and giving back to communities and I’m thrilled that Killorglin is now a part of that.

“I’m really looking forward to opening day and getting the chance to meet everyone – make sure you get down early!”

‘Concept’ design

The new Killorglin store reflects Lidl’s established ‘concept’ design and features a spacious 1,398 sqm sales floor area, offering a premier shopping experience for customers self-service checkouts, long tills, and the popular in-store bakery offering fresh baked goods daily.

Sustainability is a key focus for the Killorglin store as the retail unit incorporates an ISO 50001-certified energy management system.

This includes high performing energy efficient technologies, the installation of solar panels (PV panels), LED lighting with Dali control, and heat recovery systems.

Within the 119-space car park, the provision of a number of bike spaces and electric vehicle (EV) charging points further supports sustainable transport options for customers and store teams.

Lidl opened its first store in Kerry in Killarney in 2000 and currently employs more than 130 people locally across its existing stores in Listowel, Dingle, Killarney, Kenmare, Castleisland, and two stores in Tralee.

Contributing to local economy

Lidl noted that its investment in Killorglin contributes significantly to the local economy.

Earlier this year, Lidl Ireland confirmed that a total of €3 million worth of goods and services was procured from 18 suppliers and business partners across Kerry in 2024.

Key Kerry suppliers include Listowel’s Prestige Foods, who have been supplying chilled and frozen desserts since 2013. Last year, Lidl also entered into a €2 million supply deal with Kerry Dairy Ireland for its own brand infant formula range.

As part of its commitment to the local community, the Lidl Killorglin store team has selected two local charities, St Vincent De Paul and Family Carers Ireland, for a donation of €1000 in Lidl vouchers on opening day.

Lidl Killorglin will be open daily: Monday – Saturday 8am – 10pm, and Sunday 9am – 9pm.
