Aldi Ireland has announced it will open its first store in Donabate later this month, marking the retailer’s 166th store across the country.

The new €15 million Donabate store will be Aldi’s 27th store in Dublin and will create 30 new permanent jobs locally when it opens on Thursday, 27 November.

To celebrate the new store opening, customers will be able to enjoy a festive atmosphere on opening day with festive treats, live entertainment – alongside some very special VIP guests.

Aldi in Ireland

Last year, ALDI Ireland celebrated 25 years in Ireland, having grown from an initial two stores in 1999 to now operating 165 nationwide.

Just last month, ALDI proudly welcomed its one billionth Irish shopper, and to mark that occasion, Colleen McCrudden from Monaghan Town was the lucky recipient of a year’s worth of free shopping with ALDI.

The retailer now employs over 4,800 people nationwide, with the new Donabate Store creating an additional 30 local jobs.

ALDI also works with a network of over 330 suppliers across Ireland, spending over €1 billion with them annually.

Mark Mulvany, store manager of the new ALDI Donabate, said: “We are thrilled to announce the opening of our first store in Donabate on 27 November.

“We hope to bring the best possible shopping experience to local shoppers as ALDI’s 27th store in Dublin.

“Our goal has always been to offer customers high-quality products at the lowest prices.

“We are grateful for the support and look forward to welcoming customers in Donabate to enjoy great value, quality produce, and an easy, enjoyable shopping experience.”

Aldi in Donabate

Aldi’s newest store, located on Turvey Avenue, is the retailer’s first store in Donabate and its 27th in Dublin.

Aldi first established a presence in the Irish market in 1999, opening two stores on the same day, including one on Parnell Street, in Dublin City Centre.

Since then, Aldi has expanded significantly, opening 26 further stores across the county and investing over €195 million since 1999.

Aldi now employs over 700 people locally and welcomed over 14.5 million customers to its Dublin stores in 2024.

The new 1,320 sqm store features Aldi’s award-winning Project Fresh layout, with wide aisles and hi-spec fixtures and fittings.

Aldi shoppers will have access to 77 car parking spaces, including six electric vehicle charging spaces.

The new store will also feature seven self-service checkouts and in-store bakery to make shopping even more efficient and enjoyable for shoppers.

AldiDonabate will be open daily:

Mon to Sat: 08:00 – 22:00
Sun: 09:00 – 21:00

Recent research from Bounce Insights found that that Aldi is the quickest supermarket for the full shop, with the average weekly shop taking just 37 minutes.

The same research also showed that shoppers place a high importance on value for money and product quality, with 70% of Aldi shoppers ranking value for money as one of the top three most important factors when deciding where to complete their main grocery shop.

Sustainability

The new store includes 262 sm2 solar panels, contributing to ALDI’s nationwide programme to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions.

Since the launch of the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) in February 2024, ALDI customers in Dublin have returned over 348 million drink containers, generating more than €59 million in refunds.

Nationally, shoppers have returned more than 384 million items to ALDI stores, redeeming over €64 million in cash or vouchers.

Customers at the new store will also have the option to donate their deposit directly to Barnardos, ALDI’s longstanding charity partner.
