Lidl has announced it will open the doors to its newest store in Enfield County Meath, on Thursday 13 February, taking the retailer’s store count to seven in the county and creating 20 permanent new jobs for the local area.

Local ladies’ Gaelic football star Aoibhín Cleary will have the honour of cutting the ribbon on the significant new retail development and welcome shoppers into the new store to enjoy a premier shopping experience encompassing a spacious shop floor with wide aisles, long tills, restrooms, and baby-changing facilities as well as an in-store bakery and spacious parking and landscaping.

Opening day

Alongside opening day discounts, supplier demonstrations and family entertainment, the first ten shoppers across the doors will receive a gift card to redeem against their in-store shop.

Continuing the retailer’s ambitious expansion plans, the brand-new store is the retailer’s 182nd store in Ireland and 225th store within Ireland.

Construction of the state-of-the-art new store commenced last August, supporting 80 additional construction jobs to develop the 1,400sqm retail development.

With sustainability at its core, the new Enfield store will incorporate LED lighting, heat pumps, and PV solar panels to aid in reducing carbon emissions.

“Since opening our first store in the county at Trim in 2004, we have become a pillar of the Meath community, employing more than 140 people across our stores in Ashbourne, Bettystown, Clonee, Trim, Dunshaughlin and Navan and serving thousands of customers,” said Brian Smyth, regional property director, Lidl Ireland.

High demand

The new Enfield store has been in high demand by local residents, with 93% of residents pledging their support for the new store in the area and research showing that almost 60% of residents travel to shop at Lidl stores in nearby towns Maynooth, Kilcock and Trim.

“I know the new store team is excited to welcome the community to experience the new store, so I would advise shoppers to get down early and avail of our opening day offers,” noted Smyth.

“Lidl has been a longstanding partner to LGFA and it’s great to see them investing further in the county and supporting more local communities. It’s a welcome boost for the area and I can’t wait to celebrate with shoppers on 13 February,” said Aoibhín Cleary, Meath Senior Ladies football team captain.

Latest report

In its latest impact report, Lidl Ireland announced it procured €91 million worth of goods and services from Meath suppliers and business partners in 2023.

Lidl’s key Meath suppliers include a longstanding and fruitful partnership with Meade Farm, developing the first-of-its-kind, innovative Lidl Farm.

Together with Meade, Lidl has turned 8.5 acres of land into a free educational resource for schoolchildren at its Newbridge Distribution Centre.

Launched in October 2022, the Lidl Farm has welcomed more than 7,000 schoolchildren to date, with tours running twice a year – from March to June and from September to October.

Developed in partnership with Agri Aware, the programme focuses on the farm-to-fork story and educates kids on food provenance and best practices in farming.

Lidl Ireland currently employs more than 6,000 employees in its 181 stores, Head Office in Tallaght and three distribution centres and regional offices based in Charleville, Newbridge and Mullingar in County Westmeath, which will service the new Enfield store.

Lidl Ireland was recently named a ‘Top Employer’ by the Top Employers Institute for the fifth year running.

The retailer was also named Most Reputable Retailer and 2nd Most Reputable Company in the 2024 RepTrak Ireland study, and was named Most Sustainable Retailer in Ireland, ranking #3 in the RepTrak® Sustainability Index for 2024.
