Lidl Ireland opened the doors of its brand-new €10 million store in Baltinglass this morning (28 May), creating 22 new permanent local jobs for the area.
Located at Weaver’s Square, this major investment marks the retailer’s sixth store in the county.
This store is a huge milestone for the locality, having received mammoth support from over 1,500 local residents who campaigned to bring Lidl to the town, the retailer highlighted.
Opening day festivities
Wicklow LGFA star and Baltinglass local Ella Parke officially cut the ribbon this morning and greeted shoppers as they enjoyed opening day festivities.
To celebrate, the first ten shoppers through the doors received complimentary Lidl gift vouchers to redeem in-store to enjoy some exclusive opening day offers.
As part of its commitment to the local community and to mark the opening day celebrations representatives from Baltinglass LGFA/GAA club received a donation of €1000 in Lidl vouchers from the Baltinglass store team.
Speaking at the ribbon-cutting this morning, Wicklow LGFA star Ella Parke, said: “It was great fun to be part of the official ribbon cutting and to feel the fantastic energy from the crowds at the doors. As a local, it’s brilliant to see this kind of investment in the town and I know this truly means so much to the people of Baltinglass.
“Lidl has also been a great supporter of the LGFA for a decade, championing the sport both at county and club level so it’s great to see this continued investment in the community. It was wonderful to meet so many local residents this morning as they walked through the doors for the first time.”
Store features
The modernised store features a spacious 1,420 sqm sales floor equipped with self-checkouts, two Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) machines, an off-licence, customer restrooms with baby changing facilities, and the popular in-store bakery.
Sustainability is a key focus for the Baltinglass store. The retail unit has been fitted with high-performing energy-efficient technologies and rooftop solar (PV) panels to reduce its carbon footprint, alongside a spacious customer car park.
Niall Murray, regional managing director at Lidl Ireland, added: “This store represents a substantial investment in the area, creating new local employment and providing a premier shopping experience with industry-leading sustainability features.
“Above all, today is a celebration for the people of Baltinglass. The sheer passion and dedication of the residents who came together to bring Lidl to the town was incredibly inspiring.”
