FSAI hosting Brexit information webinars for food businesses

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) is hosting a special series of free webinars to assist food businesses prepare for Brexit.

The webinar on Wednesday, 21 October at 10 am will hear from speakers from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine who will detail the required import controls on foods of animal origin, how to have a more efficient transfer through the Border Control Post and outline what  documentation is required for food importers.

Places at the webinars are limited and registration is free by clicking here. The final webinar of the series will take place on 4 November with a speaker from the HSE: further details will be available on www.fsai.ie/brexit closer to the time.

“The food industry in Ireland faces a number of challenges arising from Brexit,” said FSAI CEO, Dr Pamela Byrne. “We have organised these webinars to assist food businesses and to inform them of the implications for compliance as Brexit rapidly approaches. These webinars are a one-stop opportunity for the food industry to hear about the latest developments and regulatory requirements.”

Speakers will provide a summary of import controls on foods of animal origin. This will include information on what needs to be done now to prepare to import these products and what documents are needed. The webinar will also provide guidance and advice on topics including: certification and options for sealing loads; assigning the operator responsible for the consignment; and the importance and responsibilities of the operator responsible for the consignment and other relevant topics.

In advance of Brexit, the FSAI has also developed a number of online resources to help food businesses prepare for the upcoming change, including a dedicated web page on its website at www.fsai.ie/brexit, an eLearning module on food import requirements and an Ezine subscription for food businesses.
