The town of Ennis has become the beneficiary of free public Wi-Fi, the first in Co. Clare to be part of the county council’s plans for open access across the region.

The open Wi-Fi access was recently introduced to the Upper Market area of the town, with further plans to extend the service to Parnell Street, Abbey Street, O’Connell Street and O’Connell Square during the coming weeks.

The initiative is funded by Clare County Council, which is working with local businesses to install the various Wi-Fi hotspots in an effort to draw shoppers and businesses to the town.

“This is a brilliant initiative that will further enhance the experience of visitors to the town,” mayor of Ennis Cllr Ann Norton said at the launch. “Given how everybody carries a smart phone or tablet these days, it’s likely to prove very popular.”
