The acquisition of the trading business of ADM Londis by BWG Group, has now been cleared by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC).

BWG has welcomed the commission’s decision on the acquisition, which was first announced on 23 January 2015, and will now proceed to complete the deal.

Commenting, Leo Crawford, Group CEO, BWG Group said: “Londis is a great food retail brand with a rich heritage in Ireland spanning over 60 years. Following today’s very positive decision, BWG’s focus will now be on growing and developing Londis in Ireland as part of our portfolio of market leading convenience brands, and we look forward to working with our newest retail partners around the exciting plans we have for Londis retailers and the brand.”

At the time of the acquisition announcement in January, ADM Londis chief executive Stephen O’Riordan said: “At Londis we’re keen to continue a journey that has seen the group drive efficiency and service whilst delivering value for customers and protecting retailer margins. We believe that being part of a global business of scale would further enhance competiveness for consumers and franchisees.”

Londis, which has been operating in Ireland for more than 60 years, has more than 200 stores across the country, and reported sales of €195 million in 2013.

The BWG Group said in January that it “is committed to retaining and promoting the Londis brand and to investing in its future growth and development”.
