BWG Foods has won the ‘Logistics & Transport Excellence’ award at the recent Irish Transport & Logistics Awards.

The award ‘recognises exceptional achievement and is the most prestigious honour in the logistics and transport industry’.

The title was awarded in recognition of the exceptional standards set by BWG Foods’ National Distribution Centre.

Commenting on the award, Simon Marriott, chief operations officer, BWG Foods, said, “Operating a logistics and distribution operation of such an immense scale requires deep methodology, precision, efficiency, and an openness to innovation and continuous improvement.”

The company was also honoured with the ‘Own Account Transport Operator of the Year’ award which recognises major achievement over the past 12 months from a company that operates its own fleet of vehicles to distribute their own goods.

BWG Foods noted that it was selected on the basis of its continued improvements towards sustainable transport solutions and increased efficiencies throughout its logistics and transport network.

The wholesaler and retailer ‘remains committed to reducing its Co2 emissions throughout its operations.’

BWG Foods operates one of Ireland’s largest and most complex distribution operations which includes a 240,000 square foot National Distribution Centre situated in Kilcarbery in County Dublin and a modern delivery fleet that extends to approximately 120 vehicles.

BWG Foods’ sophisticated logistics and distribution operation serves its network of over 1,000 Spar, Eurospar, Mace, Londis, and XL stores, along with 14,000 B2B customers through its wholesale division that includes BWG Foodservice, Corrib Food Products, William’s Gate and a nationwide network of 22 Value Centre and Cash and Carry branches.

BWG Foods nationwide operation is powered by a growing and sophisticated team of over 1,650 people, expanding to 22,000 people across Ireland through BWG’s branded retail estate, in partnership with independent retailers.

“At the heart of our business is an exceptional team who are 100% committed to ensuring BWG Foods has the most sophisticated and effective distribution operations possible and these awards are testament to their unwavering passion and determination,” Marriott concluded.
