Spar Parkwest of Parkwest Business Park in Dublin has been named National Convenience Store of the Year 2018, seeing off significant competition from some of Ireland’s most ambitious and impressive stores to scoop the ultimate accolade at the ShelfLife National C-Store Awards 2018.

Ireland’s top retailers and brands gathered at Dublin’s Citywest Hotel last night to attend the prestigious ceremony, now in its 18th year. The C-Store Awards are the most comprehensive and the only independently-judged business accolades for the convenience store sector.

Together with regular master of ceremonies Marty Whelan, ShelfLife magazine welcomed more than 400 guests from across the country. A total of 41 awards were presented, honouring businesses of all varieties and sizes, along with the brands and suppliers that help drive the industry.

Opening the event, ShelfLife publisher John McDonald said: “The work put in by retailers and their staff who enter this awards programme is quite incredible. Standards among the entrants this year are higher than ever.

“The hardest part, however, is maintaining those standards, and constantly reinforcing the key elements of retailing to staff, week after week, month after month, to ensure those standards are delivered daily for customers.”

The awards presented included a special presentation of the 2018 Convenience Champion award to John Moane, managing director of BWG Wholesale and president of appeals with the Irish Grocers Benevolent Fund. The IGBF is a charity that supports the families of those in the grocery trade who fall on hard times, often through ill health or sudden death.
