BWG’s National Distribution Centre at Kilcarbery in Dublin is shortlisted for a record seven awards at the Irish Logistics and Transport Awards, which take place tonight at the Citywest Hotel. The Centre supplies more than 1,000 Spar, EuroSpar, Londis, Mace and XL stores around Ireland, alongside a large number of Value Centre wholesalers.
The site – the only wholesale and retail group nominated – is up for the following awards:
- Logistics Company of the Year
- Transport Company of the Year
- Logistics & Transport Team of the Year
- Client and Supplier Collaboration Award
- Supply Chain Achievement Award
- Customer Focus Achievement Award
- Innovation in Technology and Systems
Joanne Mellon, logistics director for BWG Group said it was the scale of BWG’s distribution network that inspired the company to form a “world-class” supply chain. “Being shortlisted for these awards is validation that our logistics operation is best-in-class,” Mellon said. “It is something we’re proud of, but also we are focused on continued investment to drive efficiency through our entire operation.”
BWG’s state-of-the-art 240,000 sq ft distribution centre in Kilcarbery Business Park, Dublin, incorporates the group’s entire ambient, chilled and frozen distribution, including the company’s bonded warehouse, making it one of the biggest facilities of its kind in the country.
The centre has nearly 300 employees, who handle an estimated 46 million cases each year, and complete approximately 800 regional deliveries on a daily basis.
The Irish Logistics & Transport Awards are seen as the benchmark for those demonstrating excellence in the industry, taking place in the Citywest Hotel.
