BWG Foods was named employer of the year at the Irish Transport & Logistics Awards.

The award, which recognises the excellence of the HR team within BWG Foods, assesses organisations against a strict set of criteria including its people strategy, employee engagement, benefits and rewards, and overall employee satisfaction, for which BWG Foods scored highly across the board.

One notable initiative that contributed to BWG Foods securing the award was the rollout by its HR team of its bespoke digital well-being app, BWG B-Well, to support its employees during Covid-19 through access to highly qualified and accredited experts in fitness, nutrition, finance, parenting, and mental health resources in real-time.

BWG Foods operates one of the country’s largest and most sophisticated retail and wholesale operations that serves its network of over 1,000 Spar, Eurospar, Mace, Londis, and XL stores, along with 14,000 B2B customers through its wholesale division that includes BWG Foodservice, Corrib Food Products, Heaney Meats and a nationwide network of 21 Value Centre and Cash and Carry branches.

Its nationwide operation is powered by a team of more than 1,650 people, expanding to 23,000 across Ireland through BWG’s branded retail estate, in partnership with independent retailers.

BWG Foods also operates a state-of-the-art 240,000 square foot National Distribution Centre situated in Kilcarbery in Co. Dublin, with one of the largest delivery fleets in the country that extends to approximately 120 vehicles.

Commenting on the award win, Peter Donohoe, chief people officer, BWG Group said: “At the heart of our success as a business is an expansive team of exceptional people who demonstrate an unrivalled passion for what they do. This culture has evolved by nurturing a positive working environment where colleagues are respected, rewarded, and encouraged to reach their full potential. We take great pride in this award as it goes to the very core of our business and we are determined to continue building on our achievements in this regard.”
