CPM is celebrating 40 years in business in Ireland, marking four decades of growth, innovation and partnership with many of Ireland’s and the world’s best-known brands.

Established in 1986 following a request from Mars UK for a dedicated field sales operation in Ireland, the business has grown from its retail merchandising roots into one of Ireland’s leading sales outsourcing and customer experience agencies.

Originally known as Counter Products Marketing, CPM built its reputation on helping brands succeed at retail level through expert field sales and merchandising.

Evolving

While those foundations remain an important part of its identity, today’s business has evolved far beyond the shop floor.

Operating across the island of Ireland with offices in Dublin and Belfast, CPM now combines strategic planning, sales expertise, customer experience, technology, data and nationwide dynamic resource deployment.

Over the past four decades, CPM’s development has mirrored the changing needs of retailers, brands and consumers.

Joining Omnicom in 1991 provided the Irish business with access to international expertise, technology and resources while retaining its deep understanding of the Irish market.

Since then, CPM has expanded its services significantly, supporting clients across FMCG, telecommunications, utilities, healthcare, technology, hospitality, events and many other sectors.

The business has also embraced innovation throughout its history.

Early investment in handheld reporting technology transformed the way field teams worked, replacing paper-based reporting with real-time data capture.

Continued investment in digital tools, analytics and field technology now enables CPM to combine information from retail activity with sales and performance data, helping clients identify opportunities faster and deploy resources more effectively.

While execution remains central to CPM’s success, its role increasingly begins long before activity reaches a store or customer.

Today the company works with clients to identify commercial opportunities, interpret market data, develop sales strategies and design campaigns capable of delivering measurable commercial results.

This combination of strategic thinking and operational excellence has become one of CPM’s defining strengths.

John Healy, general manager of CPM Ireland, said: “Reaching 40 years is an important milestone, but this is a business that doesn’t spend much time looking backwards.

“We have remained successful because we have continued to evolve, invest and challenge ourselves to do more.

“We combine the experience and security that come with longevity with the ambition of a business that is determined to keep growing and finding better ways to deliver for our clients.”

Technology has transformed how CPM operates, but people remain at the heart of the business.

The company continues to invest heavily in learning and development, leadership and employee engagement, recognising that lasting client relationships and commercial success are built by knowledgeable, motivated teams.

This commitment has been recognised through a range of industry and people awards in recent years.

Healy added: “At CPM, we work in genuine partnership with our clients, contributing insight, ideas, technology and strategic thinking, before combining that with the quality execution needed to deliver measurable results.

“Our people continually identify opportunities, challenge existing approaches and bring new solutions to our clients.”

Many of CPM’s client relationships have continued for well over a decade, reflecting the company’s ability to evolve alongside its customers, while continually delivering significant return on investment.

As part of the wider international CPM network and the Omnicom Group, the Irish business combines detailed local market knowledge with global resources, innovation and expertise, giving clients both international capability and strong local understanding.

Looking ahead, CPM intends to build on its 40-year heritage through further growth, diversification and investment in people, technology and strategic partnerships. “We are proud of our history, but we are even more excited about the future,” said Healy.

“Markets continue to evolve rapidly: our ambition is to anticipate, not to respond to change and help our clients understand it, shape their strategies around it and turn each challenge into a commercial opportunity.

“That passion and hunger to be the best we can be is what has driven CPM over the past 40 years and what will continue to drive the business in the years ahead.” He concluded.
