Retail NI urges immediate coronavirus small business grants
Retail group says the full one year 100% rates relief scheme, which is in place in the rest of the UK, needs to be fully implemented in Northern Ireland

In a conference call with Northern Ireland’s Economy Minister Diane Dodds earlier today, Retail NI urged the rapid establishment of the Covid-19 Business Support Grant Scheme.
Retail NI chief executive Glyn Roberts described the discussion as “very useful”.
“The minister gave me the welcome news that the scheme would be established rapidly and the application process would be simple,” Roberts said.
Retail NI also stressed that the full one year 100% rates relief scheme, which is in place in the rest of the UK, needs to be fully implemented in Northern Ireland.
Turning to the response of the UK government, Roberts called for the introduction of a temporary Universal Basic Income to support unemployed workers and their families, as a result of “the huge impact of coronavirus on the economy and with so many jobs lost”.
